The short version

This is a reference site about planting times. Planting Weeks (plantingweeks.com) has no sign-up, no comment box, and no ads. Nothing here writes cookies, local storage, or session storage to your browser. We run no visitor statistics, pixels, or scripts from other companies, and the typefaces load from our own domain.

How the ZIP code lookup works

Typing a ZIP code makes your browser fetch one small zone file, named after the first three digits of that ZIP code. The matching happens on your device; the full five digits are never sent to us and are never saved. Since the file name carries those three digits, the ordinary request logs at our host can reveal the rough area a lookup was for, the same as for any file on the site.

Data we handle and the reason

Request logs at our host. Cloudflare hosts and delivers these pages. To do that, and to block attacks and misuse, it handles technical data from every visit, such as the IP address, the time, the address of the page, and the browser. We rely on legitimate interest here: a site has to be delivered and kept safe. We do not build visitor statistics or profiles from these logs. Cloudflare decides how long it keeps them, under its own privacy policy, and that handling may take place in another country.

Messages you send. An email to us is read and used for one thing: writing back. The basis is again legitimate interest, in this case answering your question. Once the exchange is over we delete it, unless you ask us to hold on to it.

Personal data is never sold or passed to anyone else, and nothing here makes automated decisions about you.

Outbound links

When you follow a link to an Extension service, the USDA, or another source, you land on their site without any tracking tags added by us. From that point their privacy terms apply.

Your choices

People in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and places with comparable laws may request a copy of what we hold about them, have it corrected or erased, or object to its use. Send the request to hello@plantingweeks.com. A complaint can also go to the data protection authority where you live.

Should any of this change, for instance if statistics are ever added, this page will be updated to describe what is gathered and for what purpose before that change takes effect.
